This is an evolving page with links to images from the sketchbooks of a range of creative people from around the world.

The sketchbook from Auschwitz: a short video and description of 22 pages of drawings by an unknown artist found in a bottle in the foundations of a barracks at the Birkenau camp in 1947. 

Grayson Perry: Inside Grayson Perry's Sketchbook, a Guardian article from February 2016.

Graham Sutherland: 40 sketchbooks dating from 1935-74 at Tate Archive.

Pablo Picasso: a virtual 40-minute tour of the Picasso and Paper exhibition (25 January-13 April 2020) at the Royal Academy, London, which featured a number of his sketchbooks. Best with a large screen and the pause button.

Keith Haring: a few images of early sketchbooks (1978-80) held by the Keith Haring Foundation.

Leonardo da Vinci: Leonardo's five notebooks bound into three volumes, the Codex Forster, viewable in forensic detail via the Victoria and Albert Museum.

David Hockney: sketchbook images by the British painter on the David Hockney Foundation website.

Eileen Agar: seven drawings by the Surrealist painter and photographer at Tate Archive.

Felicia Browne: a book by the English artist killed in the Spanish Civil War in 1936, also at Tate Archive.

Henry Moore: sketchbooks and notebooks, some of them viewable with Turning the Pages virtual sketchbook technology, via the Henry Moore Institute.

Conrad Martens: a sketchbook by the artist who accompanied Charles Darwin on the HMS Beagle in 1833-34, held by Cambridge University Library.

Ivan Albright: a medical sketchbook dating from the first world war, when Albright was based in the X-ray team in Nantes, France (Art Institute of Chicago).

John Constable: an 1814 sketchbook of drawings of East Bergholt and Dedham, Suffolk, scenes familiar from his paintings, held at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
